1300 also 350 EXPERIMENTAL DEPARTMENT. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/PJH.10/JH. 4th. January, 1939. Messrs. The Hoffman Manufacturing Co.Ltd., Chelmsford, ESSEX. For the attention of C.A. Smith Esq. Dear Sirs, We at present fit to the steering gear of our P.III chassis a roller follower as shown in the attached sketch. This has proved to be unreliable in service and we wish to replace it by the ball bearing type roller shown on the attached prints F.89828/9/0/1/2. We shall probably require about 200 rollers to this new design for use as replacements and for new cars produced before we change over to your N.2891. The attached drawings show two sizes of roller in which the diameter of the external V groove varies by 0.006. This is unfortunately necessary as some cars already built have undersize cams. The preload should be 4 to 10 ozs. at 3" radius. Will you please send us 3 assemblies to this new design for the purpose of rig tests and dimensional check. Two rollers should be to F.89831 and one to F.89832. Will you please also send us a quotation for 200 of these assemblies with 100 of each size of roller. We should be glad if you would do all you can to let us have the 3 sample assemblies as soon as possible as we are experiencing failures of the existing type on customers cars and regard the matter as very urgent. | ||
