All communications should be addressed to the Company and not to individuals. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Std.3/AH. 10th. May 1938. The British Thermostat Co. Ltd., Teddington Works, Sunbury-on-Thames, MIDDLESEX. For the attention of Mr.Martin-Hurst. Dear Sirs, We thank you for your letter of 2nd. inst. and would advise you that we have tested the small diameter bellows in conjunction with the larger diameter valve and that this combination eliminates the water hammer trouble and also gives steady operation of the thermostat valve as viewed through the celluloid window on the thermostat casing. Accordingly, we should, of course, like to get this alteration on production as soon as we have sufficient experience to settle the question of reliability, and we would therefore, like you to send us a second 1 1/2" dia. "Alumbro" bellows unit for test purposes. In the case of the second unit we would like you to retain a record of the bellows free length in order to check up any loss of same after running - we would like to know whether you have this figure for the unit you have sent us. Meanwhile we would like you to only make up the first 100 units of the order for 200 thermostats to RB.{R. Bowen}3509, so that we can change to the 1 1/2" dia. bellows for the second 100 cars - we are instructing our Order Office accordingly. We will send you an official order immediately for the two 1 1/2" dia. bellows units which we have requested. Yours faithfully, for ROLLS-ROYCE LTD. | ||
