Re: Chassis 22-GV

We acknowledge receipt of memo Hmt.7/ML.8.2.38., and regret to note that the Customs Acquit d'Admission Temporaire seems to have been overlooked when the Steering Column left France in above car.

We now understand why no trace of cancellation of the acquit could be found at Boulogne, and we fear that there will be no other way out of the trouble but to pay the duty on the part, and possibly a fine, which the Customs authorities may decide to impose on us for not having fulfilled our obligations.

We would, once more, draw the attention of all concerned to the importance of presenting parts which have entered France under Temporary Admission to the Customs authorities together with the Acquit a Caution, when the car leaves France with the replaced parts.

In the case under review, we specially advised GWH{George W. Hancock - Head Chateauroux} at Chateauroux, when sending him the Acquit d'Admission Temporaire, as per our memo Sr/Go5/AD/24.9.36.

We propose instructing Hernu Peron (France) Ltd. to take the matter up again with the Customs and, if our explanations are not accepted, to pay the duty which, we shall, in turn, debit to Rolls-Royce Ltd.

Sr/Go
