Referring to the above point on our list E1/M19.1.29., it was suggested by Mr. Coverley that the starter motor pocket should be long enough to allow of the motor end cover being detached for inspection of the brushes.

I find on looking into the matter that the drawing for the engine side guard was made at 'CamachaHenry Royce's office in West Wittering', and that provision was made whereby on removing three screws the starter motor shield could be taken away entirely.

The starter motor is tucked away underneath the crankcase web and is largely hidden from above. There is however the maximum possible accessibility so far as can be seen with the shield from below, and I do not think we can improve on this by lengthening the pocket.
