"S.S." FRONT NUMBERPLATE.
---------------------

In reply to DAL/M.13.9.29., we have carried out the suggestion that the numberplate be lowered so that its bottom edge is in line with the bottom of the axle on the maximum bump. The distance the plate is dropped to accomplish this is approximately 1 1/4"; it was not found possible to accomplish this successfully by merely setting the brackets as suggested.

The bracket (as instructed on N.sch.2761) was sawn in two, welded up again with the two pieces at 180° to their original position and then set to suit the required position. The brackets instructed on N.sch.2933 are not yet available. This position of the numberplate is extremely unsightly, there is a larger gap between the top of the plate and the bottom of the radiator.

On another car we have fixed the plate to the front cross member. It certainly does not look any more unsightly in this position than in the above, and has the advantage that it allows the use of a fender which can be made to hide the front axle and springs completely. This of course, is not possible in the first numberplate position. Again, it more strictly complies with legal requirements.

Whichever position is to be used is purely a matter of personal opinion; [handwritten]we will demonstrate both[/handwritten] <strike>here we feel the position on</strike> [handwritten]positions to you on our next visit to W.W.[/handwritten] the front cross member.
