TO EFC. FROM DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} STANDARDISATION OF LARGE P & R BATTERY. With reference to the standardisation sheet for the large P. & R.{Sir Henry Royce} battery, I thank you for your EFC4/T231022. This matter however has undergone some discussion and I regret that I am still unable to sign the standardisation sheet, as we are definitely sure that we do not want larger capacity, and would if opportunity offered save weight in the battery by asking P. & R.{Sir Henry Royce} to construct one of the dimensions of the standard, but without the containing case. If they were successful in doing this, this would give the additional source of supply, would affect a fair saving of weight, and would be of a similar capacity to the standard, so as not to unduly prejudice one supply against the other. It is pointed out that the larger battery does not overcome the difficulty in London, merely extending the time when it is necessary to recharge by a few hours. The point that we wish to insist upon is that the efficiency of the starting generally shall be improved, and not the capacity of the battery increased. DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} | ||
