Dear Sirs,

We thank you for your letter of January 16th.

We too are sorry that we did not mention the question of bellows limits to you at an earlier stage.

For the small quantities which you required for samples, the bellows were specially picked and therefore conformed to your limits.

You may be aware that out of 223 units, F.85395, delivered against your Order No. 55831, 23 have been returned to us because the bellows do not fall within the specified limits.

The variations in the rejected bellows have not, we believe, exceeded .025", and it seems to us that the very small variation in the area of the bellows resulting from this discrepancy can be of very little account.

As you know, we have only comparatively recently had the pleasure of supplying you and we were not aware of the fact that it is contrary to your policy to alter drawings after the design is in production. In future we will make a particular point of letting you have any similar observations while the design is still in the experimental stage.
