x9940 (handwritten) WOR.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} from Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} Hsl/LG3.4.24. RE. ALTERNATIVE OILS. x9940 / x1588 (handwritten) We had anticipated being in a position to report on the above before now but we arranged that our tests on oils should be carried out in parallel with the tests on 4-wheel brakes. There are supplies of oil in France which will be used on the cars running 10,000 miles in connection with brakes. The policy we expect to put forward is that we shall recommend three or four different brands of oil. Our tests have gone far enough for us to know that we can recommend two or three alternatives to Prices. This policy however may not agree with our arrangement of selling oil for a profit. We consider, technically, that whilst we are interested in selling a particular brand of oil at a profit, we cannot expect customers to accept our re-commendations in the same manner as they would if we were free from the oil business.
