JAPAN 3. PETROL TANK.
R2/M29.1.31.

We feel that our N. schs. 3196/7. of the petrol tank for Japan 3. may not have been sufficiently annotated to be self explanatory, and wish to add these notes.

The scheme in general is based on our present standard design but we have incorporated such features as suggested by Works to cheapen and facilitate production. We preferred this to their other suggestion of going to an entirely different type of tank and suspension as it was more likely to be right.

The filter cowl is cut off at an angle to enable it to suck to the bottom of the tank, otherwise .750 gal. may be wanted out of a total capacity of 16 gals., which is thought to be not excessive. We had 14 gals on G.{Mr Griffiths - Chief Accountant / Mr Gnapp} 2.

Derby say that the filler made in 3 units is expensive and that they agreed that they would prefer it as a single brass casting.

The petrol filler cap is that which is now used as standard on P. 2. and 20/25HP. with the small air vent undrilled.

We are asking Derby to approach Messrs Hobson's re. the building of a special Sprengle pump which has the trays at an angle, but 7° is the maximum lean permitted by the makers for the standard pump.

The rear wheel carrier is of the P. 2. type and only indicated on these schemes as the design was done some while ago, and has done 10,000 miles on two cars. There is a triangular nose stay which we regret is not indicated.

We will make a scheme of the tank with a central sheet metal saddle carrying the tank fittings and the spare wheel hub, and send you a print.
