MAIN BEARINGS.

With reference to the attached memo from Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Swdl.{Len H. Swindell}, we do not think there is any objection to doing away with shims on connecting rods, and hope to be able to standardise this procedure before we get into production with Wraith.

As Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Swdl.{Len H. Swindell} points out, however, main bearings are not quite so easy. We hope we are not going to use anything but white-metal for main bearings in future, which means that the trouble of not being able to grind the shims will disappear. Nevertheless, we agree that we should like to be without shims, and just as soon as we can get a thorough test completed, we will issue a standardisation sheet.
