Motoring Rig.
Valve Lift Indicator.

The complete valve lift indicator consists of a contact breaker to produce a single spark per two revs., and a graduated disc driven from the camshaft with means to read the camshaft angle at which the spark occurs in addition to the indicator itself which measures the valve lift.

We send you herewith LeC.5402 of a single cylinder contact breaker adapted for use with the indicator on Phantom III. The same contact breaker will fit directly on to the Bentley and 25/30 in place of the standard distributor without any modifications.

We also send herewith LeC.5445 and LeC.5465 of the graduated disc and camshaft drives for the Phantom III and Bentley and 25/30 respectively.

The drive and casing as designed for the Phantom III can be fitted to the Bentley and 25/30 as indicated on the scheme by merely providing an adapting piece on the end of the camshaft and suitably supporting the casing.

In order to use the indicator on Phantom III both distributors must be removed, the one on the oil pump drive side being replaced by the single cylinder contact breaker and the facing for the other blanked off.

The camshaft drive and disc will be supplied by the Millwrights but the Expl. Dept. should rig up the casing.

On the Phantom III the casing replaces the wheelcase but on the Bentley and 25/30 a scrap wheelcase should be used and bored out to take the drive to the camshaft. As the oil seal will not be good the amount of oil in the wheelcase should be reduced by cutting off the jets to the gears.

We also send you herewith prints of the following machined parts required:-

(Print 2 off.) RS.{Sir Henry Royce's Secretary}403. Driving shaft contact breaker.
