S/W. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} from C. 361 COPY. C.7/C.11.3.37. [Handwritten Initials: W M Rhy (SM)] RE: PHANTOM III. RADIATORS. I would like to have this matter investigated as soon as you can. We have so far had three cases of overheating:- (1) 3.AZ.110. Guinness. We had to send a man out to the Continent, who found the radiator silted up, and he apparently had some difficulty in clearing it. He had to accompany the car as far as Milan - where it was smashed up. [Handwritten note: MK V] (2) The Hon.J.Seymour Berry 3.AZ.62. This was attended to by Cricklewood, who had to pickle the radiator. In this case it was found that one of the veins of the water pump had been damaged, which presumably contributed towards the over-heating. [Handwritten note: MK V] (3) T.Strang. 3.AZ.151. vide Inspection Mem. No.41314 of the 9th inst. The overheating in this case appears to have been due to two lumps of solder, presumably from the radiator, damaging the pump, causing loss of circulation through the radiator. [Handwritten note: MK VI] In Hd{Mr Hayward/Mr Huddy}/SB.{Mr Bull/Mr Bannister}8/HR.27.2.37 (re Guinness) particulars are given of a new type of radiator, mentioning that there are at least 200 Phantom III. cars issued with the Mark 5. type of radiator.
