Question and answer memo regarding sports car chassis testing and modifications.

| To B.J. from Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} c. to Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} X8224 Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}2/LG5.11.27. SPORTS CAR TESTS. Replying to BJ26/E4.11.27. The following are your questions and our replies. Question 1. You are preparing to make a test on a special chassis for a sports car and this will be the first chassis which will start to France for 10,000 miles test. Answer. Yes. Question 2. At present you are making modifying the old sports chassis which I tried at Frinton and you will take this in about a weeks time to WW. and will then decide on the final design of the sports chassis. Answer. Yes. Question 3. You will then return to Derby and make the sports chassis for the 10,000 miles test. Answer. The sports chassis for the 10,000 miles test is already going ahead as rapidly as possible in every detail which has been asked for by R.{Sir Henry Royce} The fact of us modifying the present sports car has not in any way delayed the complete sports car which R.{Sir Henry Royce} has asked for. There are however a number of alterations which R.{Sir Henry Royce} has instructed for the sports car which are not essential for performance or reliability. The chief of these are - new brakes, new torque tube and propeller shaft, new rear axle parts and others. The drawings and instructions for these parts have not yet reached the Expl: Dept: and as special forgings for these are required which will have to be obtained from outside, it will be 2 to 3 weeks before these parts are ready for test. What we are hoping for is that if we can take the existing sports car to Mr. Royce having the main essentials in the engine modified so as to overcome or reduce the vibration at high speed, which is the real reason whyXX contd :- | ||
