Secret. 1260 To Da.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}. from Da{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}/Ev.{Ivan Evernden - coachwork} c. By.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} Da{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}/Ev.{Ivan Evernden - coachwork}4/N.2.7.38. Re: Chassis Nomenclature. Further to your Da{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}8/G.30.6.38 re a name for the Bentley 50 with the 6 cyl. C.I. engine, we suggest that it would help us in stating our programme of the chassis projects to have a complete nomenclature covering the whole range of models and their derivatives. We give our proposals below:- B.III - New Bentley chassis with Wraith III engine. B.36 VIL -ditto- with 6 cyl. C.I. engine. B.38 VIII -ditto- with 8 cyl. C.I. engine. B.50 - New Bentley chassis + 6" wheelbase with Wraith.III. engine. B.60 - -ditto- with 6 cyl. C.I. engine. B.80 - -ditto- with 8 cyl. C.I. engine. Wraith 50 - New Bentley chassis + 9" wheelbase & Wraith III. engine. Wraith 60 - -ditto- and 6 cyl. C.I. engine. Wraith 80 - -ditto- and 8 cyl. C.I. engine. B.160 - New Bentley chassis minus 6" wheelbase, 6 cyl.C.I. engine. The reason we propose to use high figures for the numerical prefixes is in order that we may avoid a clash with the experimental numbers, such as occurrs now with B.3. the first car of which series was 1.B.5. and recently rechristened 7.B.5.
