Vickers}7.4.38. HYKRO CRANKSHAFTS. We give below as requested summary of running experience on Hykro crankshafts fitted in aero and chassis units. Individual running times and condition of shafts at last examination are as follows :- AERO. Merlin "F" 1 - Crankshaft D.4475.A. Fitted 28.8.36.) Total Running - 23 1/2 hours. Removed 21.9.36.) Shaft in good condition after two hours endurance test and subsequently on removal during conversion of engine to "F" 1/1 type - now in Air Ministry Bond. Exe B.2 - Crankshaft A.1793. Fitted 23.9.37. Condition good apart from minor slag marks and light scoring when examined after two hours endurance test. Engine despatched to Hucknall after 51 hours running - shaft not re-examined. Exe B.3 - Crankshaft A.1793. Fitted 11.12.37.) Total Running - 106 hours. Removed 25.1.38.) Condition poor due to extensive pitting on all journals and pins. CHASSIS. Phantom III No. 6 - Crankshaft E.88673. 65 hours endurance running - condition good. Wraith III No. 6 - Crankshaft Ex.27857. 200 hours general running - condition good. continued. | ||
