Re Chassis No. 12-EM. 10,000 Miles Trial Run. POINTS TO BE DEALT WITH. 1. Apparently when chassis are delivered there is no Tool Container other than boxes or receptacles which may be supplied by the Coach-builders. We think it very advisable that the leather roll for containing the tools should be supplied with the tool kit. 2. There is no Inspection Lamp or flex supplied with the chassis, and apparently these have to be bought separately, an adaptor only being left on the Switchboard. It does not seem right that the customer should have to buy this separately. 3. In our Instruction Book we advise that the fan belt and dynamo belt are removed periodically for scraping and greasing, but we do not supply a screwdriver which is small enough to detach the screws which hold the links of the belt. We think this should be added to the Tool Kit. 4. It is not possible to lubricate the greaser at the rear end of the front spring with the grease gun supplied with the kit, on account of insufficient clearance between the Frame and the top of the greaser. 5. There are a number of points in the Instruction Book which we used as our guide for oiling and running the car, the criticisms on which we are dealing with in a separate memo. These points may be useful in compiling the new Instruction Book which we understand is now in progress. 6. Failure of the Magneto. 7. Failure of the Ball Race in the Dynamo. 8. There appears to be a fair amount of slackness on engine controls, but this may not be wear, but due to slack in original manufacture, on account of the rough limits of the drawn tube which is bought outside. ACTION TAKEN. Not considered necessary. Settled at Sales Conference. Not considered necessary. Per BJ6/H5.12.23. Reply from BY:- We consider a screwdriver the correct size desirable, and will arrange to supply in future. Reply from BY:- It is intended that this lubricator shall be moved into a new position, in order to enable the grease gun to be applied for greasing purposes. Reply from BY:- The whole of these points are being considered, and what is thought advisable will be incorporated in the next edition of the Instruction Book. We attach copy of Makers' report on the failure of the Magneto, marked 'A'. We attach copy of Makers' report on the failure of the Ball Race in the Dynamo, marked 'B'. Reply from BY:- Our present practice demands fine limits on the tubes acting as torsion members in passing through bearings. The maximum slack allowable without grinding the tubes is .004". This is better than our practice has ever been, and personally I do not consider that we should go to the added expense of grinding of such tubes in order to bring the slack down to .003" maximum. | ||
