To RHC.{R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer} from Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}11/MJ.14.8.36. Phantom III Weight - Continental. We are appalled at the weight of the Phantom III. In spite of the shorter chassis, smaller engine, and greater use of light alloys, the first six Phantom III's delivered to customers average out 1 cwt. heavier than the last six Phantom II's. We are having a shot at making our Continental Phantom III, which has been handed over to the Experimental Dept. as a job of work, a reasonably light motor car, and we should like to have your assistance. In certain cases weight can be got off by just altering material thickness and/or specification. We attach a list of these simple alterations. On other parts a certain amount of scheming is required. These are following along. I believe we can get 5 1/2 cwts. off the chassis and a lot of cost at the same time. Att: List of weight saving possible.
