Extract from letter: From: Price's Patent Candle Co.Ltd "In advocating Motorine C de Luxe in place of Motorine C for these new engines, we would confirm the information given to you by the writer to the effect that whilst the body of Motorine C and Motorine C de Luxe is about the same, the latter is much richer in fatty matter and in other ways specially adapted for use in sports and semi-sports types of water cooled engines. The additional fatty matter adds in our opinion, to the efficiency of the oil as a lubricant, besides improving the ratio of viscosity. "From the viscosity figures which we give you at the foot of this letter you will see how Motorine C de Luxe is less affected by changes in temperature. This is a very important feature. It is seen at its best in the case of Motorine C de Luxe. By reason of these valuable characteristics Motorine C de Luxe has the recommendation of practically all manufacturers of and concessionaires for sports and semi sports types of cars. We include Bentley, Lagonda M.G., Talbot, Delage, Invicta and Alfa Romeo. In several cases our oil is exclusively, or almost exclusively used by the manufacturers of and agents for these cars. "Although not claimed to be a lubricant for purely racing purposes Motorine C de Luxe has been used with success at Brooklands, also on cars and motor cycles in the Isle of Man. One of the special features of Motorine C de Luxe is the way in which bearing surfaces are preserved. We claim without hesitation that an engine strips down in better condition after the use of Motorine C de Luxe than with any other oil. By reason of its greater proportion of fatty oil and other important differences Motorine C de Luxe is considerably more resistant to heat than Motorine C. Whilst generally speaking Motorine C could be maintained at a temperature of say 130/140°F.{Mr Friese} we would have no hesitation in carrying Motorine C de Luxe to a temperature of 150/160°F.{Mr Friese} Of course it is understood that these are extremes. If there is any tendency for the crank case to remain at considerably higher temperatures it would be preferable to consider Motorine B de Luxe which is on the same lines as Motorine C de Luxe but has about 50% greater body." | ||
