re BENTLEY V FAN.

Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} has expressed a wish to cheapen the construction of a Bentley V fan, in respect to the spider and blade assembly. The rough estimate indicates that approximately 33% of the cost could be saved if the blade material was steel instead of duralumin, and the blades were spot welded to the spider instead of being rivetted.

We are a little doubtful whether any saving could be effected by lightening the construction of the spider and pressing this as we have had cases of spider failure on Phantom fans. It might be worthwhile, however, instructing two spiders with a gauge of material reduced by 10% and 20%.
