I do not favour any auto: scheme of charge control, but do wish we could find a simple and reliable indicator shewing when the battery is fully charged, because it gives the driver the satisfaction of knowing he has got a good charge stored in his battery, and saves loss of electrolite and damage to cells. It makes the unavoidably inaccessible position of the cells less objectionable by saving the necessity of frequent examination and refilling, and its risk of damage to the bodywork. I so far like the green lamp scheme but gas given off by the cells is perhaps the best indicator of charge. One feels sure that owing to cars travelling faster, and also being lower geared, there would be no trouble from cutting in the amount later that the intermediate dynamo require. Our London trials car should soon test this. R.{Sir Henry Royce} | ||
