Waller - Head of Chateauroux} from Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Gry.{Shadwell Grylls} Hotel de France, Chateauroux, Indre, France. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Gry.{Shadwell Grylls}2/MH.{M. Huckerby}25.7.39. Dunlops were here yesterday and they will send you a further supply of 7 1/2 x 16 4-ply tyres for 30.G.VII. They are also sending four special 6.50 x 16 covers which you will be able to recognise by a red band painted on them. These are a tyre which they have just developed and which is reputed to have less weight, more cornering power and less power absorption. They should be indestructible on the Italian Autostrada at normal pressures. When they arrive please let us know your views on how 14.B. handles when they are fitted. Our present decision for tyres for the Corniche for the Motor Show is to fit the thinnest tread five-stud Avons. We know that one of these failed after 30 miles all out on the autostrada, but what interests us more is whether they are satisfactory for the high speeds maintainable in France when inflated to the normal pressure.
