| FILES. XJ509A HS{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Wym.{G. Harold Whyman - Experimental Manager}1/JH.23.3.36. Report on 21-G-IV. Mileage run under fast touring conditions. 351. Petrol used 21 galls. 3½ pts. Petrol consumption 16.37 m.p.g. Oil " 3 pts. Oil " 936 m.p.g. Water lost out of radiator ½pt. Oil pressure 20 lbs.sq/in Water temperature under normal conditions 78ºC. Maximum speed attained on Towcester Road 80 m.p.h. Water temperature rises 95ºC after only 2 miles of full throttle over 70 m.p.h. - suspect wind pressure closing radiator shutters. Carburetter. Starting up very good. Slow running poor. Throttle sticks and does not close properly, this is probably the cause of persistent spitting back in exhaust silencer when coasting. On about a dozen occasions after a period of fairly slow running in traffic, the engine "popped" back when the throttle was opened. Brakes. Footbrake thumps badly. Springing. The riding of the car is anything but good. Propellor shaft vibrates badly - either out of balance or one end is seized. There are a number of annoying cracks from the floorboards and under the scuttle, and a bad knock at the rear of the body. HS{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Wym.{G.
