To E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} from Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} c. to Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} c. to Wcr. As you know, we have been testing the Jackall Hydraulic Jacking System for about 18 months. The first set fitted on Phantom were very promising. A second set fitted to 5-B-IV had minor troubles and a bracket cracked. Another set fitted to the car which C. was using in London behaved quite well. The system which was supposed to be Smith's last word was sent for 10,000 miles test on 21-G-IV, and attached is Bowering's report on the completion of the run. It is somewhat disconcerting to find that this system has given far more trouble than we have previously experienced. A car will shortly be going to France fitted with a big bore unit, when Smith's will have an opportunity to demonstrate that they can give us a satisfactory set-up.
