X1109 Cyl - G 29.11.20. Nov. 29th 1920. Mr. Claude Johnson, Managing Director, Rolls-Royce Ltd., London, England. Attention Mr. Clark. Dear Sirs, X.430. X.1109. Re Eisemann Magneto X.179. In reply to Mr. Clark's letter, EFC2/T10.11.20 we had no opportunity of inspecting the Eisemann Magneto which was sent to England, but think that he will find that the large gear wheel driving the distributor was made not of fibre but of one of the Bakelite materials which are becoming as popular here. The 2 principally used are Bakelized Micarta (which has a paper base) and developed by the Westinghouse Company, and Continental Bakelite (which has a canvas base) developed I believe by the General Electric Company. These materials are virtually non-hygroscopic and are therefore most suitable for use in magneto distributor gears, etc. Yours truly, ROLLS ROYCE OF AMERICA, INC. MO/GZ Per__________________ | ||
