Dimensions and proposed modifications for brake and change gear levers on various car models.

'D' type Brake Lever 21.750"

The dimensions on the 40/50 HP. at present are :-

'B' Type - Brake Lever 24.500"
Change Gear Lever 17.500"

'C' & 'D' TYPE.
Brake Lever 22.000"
Change Gear Lever ('C' type) 17.500"
" 'D' " 15.000"

In regard to the lengths quoted for the 20 HP. these are to the top of the lever and not the top of the thumb piece operating the pawl.

The points we consider require consideration are :-

(a) The possible reduction in length of the brake lever with the object of reducing the flexibility.

(b) An increase on the sectional width.

If you examine the 20 HP. 'D' type car you have at WW. you will notice that the change gear lever is the short type as specified above, and the brake lever will show the transverse flexibility of which we are complaining.

The brake lever with its bracket, quadrant etc. could be treated as a unit stiffened up and shortened as suggested if agreed to, and brought in with the present type change gear lever, design, length and position unaltered.

The second factor which it is proposed to introduce is the slight modification to the gearbox to enable the floorboards to be brought lower, and incidentally Sales are pressing us, as you will see from a separate note which I have written, to close in the quadrant bracket of the change gear in some manner or another to prevent fumes working up from below and inside the frame to the interior of the body.

The above involves rather a long memo, and possibly the points of the memo may be missed. I am therefore summarizing same below :-
