RE. SCH.1160 - MODIFICATION TO MAKE SS.{S. Smith} RADIATOR FILLER CAP WATER TIGHT.

We prefer the rubber ring method of the two schemes shewn. This would appear to be satisfactory with slight alteration. The undercut in the cap is scarcely deep enough to keep the rubber in position, i.e. the rubber ring sometimes sticks to the radiator filler when the cap is removed; can this be increased to say 2.350" or 2.4" diameter, and use a different rubber ring, same inside dia. larger outside dia. to suit.

The undercut was not wide enough on our experimental car caps to take the ring i.e. they were less than .150" wide; it is important that this dimensions is not greater than the thickness of the ring.

Thirdly the radiator filler will have to be reduced by more than .075" to avoid the thread being visible when the cap is on. The rubber does not compress more than .025", therefore the filler should be reduced by .125".
