Daily Report on 10,000 Miles Test (Text is mirrored at the top of the page)

ENGINE.
No trouble in starting up. Carburation too weak with .095" - 4°0' needle fitted. Hs. {Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} 1881, 4°16' - .080" gives the best all round results. Engine smoother up to 60 MPH. No missfires, slight detonations. Engine gears free from rattle and free from sing. Tappets still noisy after first starting up. Slow running even. Exhaust fishtail bracket broke across top bolt holes, apparently the stays are too weak. 1 pint of water lost from radiator. Side bonnet strips on frame - bifurcated rivets working loose.

GEARBOX.
Ease of change now good, no gears came out of mesh, no increase wear in third motion shaft bearing.

CLUTCH.
Engagement was fairly smooth; still slow in stopping when cold or hot.

STEERING.
Is not selective, and will not self centre; inclined to wobble at low speeds after going over railway crossing.

BRAKES.
Efficient and smooth. Rear brakes adjusted 3.5 turns each.

HYDRAULIC DAMPERS.
The rear nearside damper control, oil leaking from elbow joint .180 c.c. of oil lost from unit. Poundage of dampers consistent.

PROPELLER SHAFT.
Rear mechanic coupling beaks. The cause is due to the axle swinging round when brakes are applied with Hydraulic Damper set to minimum load. There is not sufficient clearance in the joint for this winding up of the axle.

REAR AXLE.
The axle is free from oil leaks. The period of noise at 50 MPH. remains the same.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM.
The headlamps do not dip sufficiently when set for continental conditions - i.e. dipping right hand.
There were no other troubles.

BODYWORK.
N.S. Front wing has started to crack at the bottom extreme end corner.
