For the attention of Mr. Fraser.

Dear Sirs,

We thank you for your letter of the 21st inst., enclosing arrangement drawing of the Girling Brake layout you intend fitting to one of our Bentley chassis. There are one or two comments we should like to make, and they are -

(1) That we do not think the water exclusion scheme will be adequate, particularly as cars are almost always washed nowadays with a high pressure hose.

(2) We notice that the width of the rear drum is shown to be the same as the front. Does this mean that you wish to do away with the hand brake altogether, or that the same rear shoes will be used for the hand brake, in which case would it not be better to use the full width of the drum, as we know the rear brakes attain a higher temperature than the front ones.

(3) We wonder whether the cooling of the brakes will be adequate with just the one rib shown, or whether it would not be better to use the more usual type of ribbed drum.

Perhaps you will let us have your views on these criticisms.

Yours faithfully,

FOR ROLLS-ROYCE LIMITED.
