Rolls Royce Ltd., DERBY. Dear Sirs, For the attention of the Chief Designer. We would like to emphasize the many advantages of standardizing our Hillman Cebon Special Construction - Fan Belts Patent No. 390340, and in this we can guarantee there is little or no distortion in the distribution of strengths and we are able to ensure that balance necessary for smooth running. By our method of construction we claim:- (1). Maximum strength and minimum stretch, due to the use of superfine cord fabric at the neutral axis, where it is never subjected to fluctuation of tension, and specially built up of one piece of material and of the desired section. (2). Great flexibility, due to the resiliency of the rubber above the neutral axis, which takes the extension, and the rubber below the neutral axis takes the compression when the belt is actually running round the pulleys. In this respect it is much superior to belts having fabric, either woven or weftless in the place of these rubber layers above and below the neutral axis. (3). Freedom of settling into the pulley groove due to the large amount of cord fabric in the centre core. (4). Smoothness in running, due to the fact that the centre core is not rolled up in an annular method and then squeezed into shape, but is lapped layer upon layer from one continuous length to form the shape of the WASHERS .
