Re DUNLOP TYRES.
Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}3/KT21.5.31

Thanks for the photograph enclosed, and the new tread certainly appears to be quite a good-looking one, and we have no objection to it.

I note, however, you do not expect to get any better non-skidding properties out of it than the present type of silent tread tyre, but since you consider the present type of tyre is only 5% less efficient than the buttress tread, this would appear to be all we can expect.

It would certainly be an advantage, however, if the life of the tread is prolonged on this new type of tyre, so that as soon as you have tried this tyre out, as I note you are doing, if you will let us have your views upon it, we can gradually arrange to use up our present stock and bring these in when available, if you find them satisfactory of course.

We agree that at the moment the present type of silent tread is standardised, with the exception that we are offering customers the choice of triple stud and the silent in this Country, and are fitting the triple stud for Colonial and Continental use.

It certainly would appear that we shall have to continue this latter for use in countries where the road surface is soft and not metalled.
