Y4688 W.R. from E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} C. Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} H.{Arthur M. Hanbury - Head Complaints} Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} G/RU. E.1/HP.6.4.32. Schedule of tests on Light Tank. -------------------------------- With regard to the question of the tests to be carried out on the tank, Colonel Hudson has instructed his drivers that they shall put in about 120/200 miles on level road not exceeding 2000 r.p.m. on the engine, which is 20 miles per hour road speed on top gear, purely with the object of running in the gearbox and transmission. During this road test the tank should be stopped now and again to distribute the heat developed in the transmission. After the tank has been thus satisfactorily run in it can then be taken on to farm land, and put to some heavier work within the discretion of the driver. The foregoing as will be seen represents purely a test of the gearbox and transmission, and apart from this we wish to carry out certain tests of the installation set out roughly as follows to ensure that the portion of the work for which R.R. is responsible will perform satisfactorily in the forthcoming trials. (1) Test Scavenger oil pressure with oil cold up to 1000 r.p.m. and with oil hot up to 3500 r.p.m. (2) Observe main oil pressure during test No.1. to confirm that it complies with what we normally use on the 20/25 Chassis. (3) Observe oil temperatures into cooler, and oil tank particularly at full load. (4) Observe water temperature under operation conditions, being particular to ensure that the top cover of the tank is left off. Outside air temperatures should be noted at the same time. | ||
