ROLLS-ROYCE OF AMERICA, INC. SPRINGFIELD, MASS. (S831) Oy5-E-121125 December 11, 1925. Mr. E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} W. Hives, Rolls-Royce, Ltd., Derby, England. Re Stewart Vacuum Tank Dear Mr. Hives: We have had a further talk with the Stewart people who are now preparing to give us samples of a special tank of their standard size which will fit the Phantom dashboard tank and satisfy our requirements for materials and finish. They will also submit the dashboard tank used by Lincoln which is similar to ours and serves the same purpose of giving a reserve supply. Some of our requirements to which they have agreed are:- (1) Top cover in Nickel silver cast, machined and polished on the outside and with its bosses in the inside, like the Autovac. (2) Nickel-plated or nickel silver top fittings, without their minute intake strainer. (3) Float in "Aterite" (the Monel metal sheet which we use for the carburetter float). (4) Monel metal pins in the toggling mechanism. (Their suggestion as specified by U.S. War Department). (5) Tank of heavily tinned sheet-steel. As soon as we get samples we shall send you one. Yours very truly, Maurice Olley MO/E | ||
