To H.S. from R.{Sir Henry Royce} ORIGINAL SS{S. Smith} Chassis. & GY Y3994 / 8/12/28 Saturday Evening. The situation thanks to Mr Norman & yourself is hopeful for next years show. The great point at this moment is a car of 40/50 & 20 is a single Example of SS{S. Smith} & GY in France doing miles, and that they would not fail in any serious way. It will be necessary for them to cover a great mileage per day but we need not smash them unnecessarily over bad roads. 40/50 20HP. Supposing they covered 40 & 35 mph average. This would be equal to a fast owner driver who would drive as fast as he could without discomfort to himself & passengers. We should propose taking for strength of parts on the bumping rig, but sales are not interested in this as they do not understand its relative value, the same applies to test bed running. So for the next board meeting (Jan 10th I believe) we must have done the largest No. of miles possible. A second car blank should be a safe guard in case of accident or delay of any kind. Every thing points that it will be an immense advantage to get this work through so that we can carry on the programme of showing next October. We can't do this if we can't start proving soon & do not have any serious trouble. Do not consider me. I can do with Either a straight 8 or the 20 HP that is here or the one with Hooper body, after the driver gets these he can take care of your. [Left margin note:] The RR Company. | ||
