X5992 Restaurant Octobon, Le-Canadel, Par-Le-Lavandou, (Var) France. Re From Jodd. The following are a few impressions of 20.G.4 at Le-Canadel. Engine. Running excellently, slow running very good, maximum speed coming down France was, 80.m.p.h. equal in performance to 18.G.4. for top speed, and about the same side by side acceleration. We fitted a set of Lodge S.1. type sparking plugs at Derby, but these gave trouble after 1,400 miles, pre-igniting very badly, and giving out completely accelerating under load. We have a new set of K.L.G R.F. type plugs and these are giving satisfaction. The exhaust manifold with sliding flange is a success, but the exhaust front expansion box sounds very "tinny" when engine is slow running. This exhaust noise is completely covered by the excessive amount of suction noise at the carburetter when engine is accelerated. during periods. There is rather a bad exhaust boom forward at 30 M.P.H. and on retard at 30. down to 25. miles per hour. Gear Box The synchro-mesh works well, and has not given any trouble, the noise on the gears and when running in neutral shews no change since leaving the works. There is a cover plate at the rear of the gear box, over the reverse shaft, which has a pressed in centre-piece, this worked out on 20.G.4. coming down France causing the loss of all oil in the gear box. It looks as if it would be better to make the cover plate in one if possible. There are no signs of any clutch slip. Brakes. These are very efficient and effective, there are no signs of brake squeaks. Steering. Very selective and good for jovies. Cornering. Combined with the present shock damper loads seems ideal for Le-Canadel conditions, but not for fast road work. The off side Front shock damper hits the side steering tube before coming on the buffers. Horn. The Klaxon K.F. Medallion type is a failure, it will not move traffic, the note is very ineffective, and the horne has required adjusting twice during the first 1,000 miles -con't | ||
