Extract from Mr. Hives's report, Wor{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager}/EHL4/L19614, on

10,000 mile Engine Bench Test.

Weights.

If we adopt the parts that have run on this test, there will be an increase of 2 lbs. 12 ozs. per engine, made up as follows :-

We save in weight compared with standard.

10 ozs. on each Connecting Rod } E.3718 3 lbs. 12 ozs.

16 ozs. on each Piston E4237 or } E4213 6 " 0 "

Lightened Crankshaft. 7 " 0 "
Total weight saved per engine. 16 lbs. 12 ozs.

12 Balance Weights and Studs. 19 lbs. 8 ozs.
Less 16 " 12 "
2 lbs. 12 ozs.

I believe when we have got these lightened reciprocating parts we shall be able to reduce the wheel of the slipper wheel and so make it that the addition of balance weights has not increased the weight. I feel very confident that we can do this because of previous tests I have made with different size slipper wheels.
