Re Chassis 9 G.III.

We wired you yesterday, as follows :-

" TWO BOLTS BROKEN IN SLIPPER WHEEL DAMAGED CAM "
" WHEEL STOP SEND BOLTS AND NEW WHEEL - HANCOCK "

We are forwarding to you, by post, a broken bolt and spring out of the slipper wheel. Our opinion is that these bolts are too hard on thread portion.

Re your suggestions of tests of servo gear rattles, we will endeavour to get these through as soon as the car is on the road again.

We have tried to get into touch with Paris office for new cam wheel and bolts, but unfortunately it is a holiday and the office was closed. The office will not be open until Monday, so we do not consider it will be worth while our trying to get them there, as we trust that the bolts and gear will already have been sent from Derby.

Mr. Clark has sent me a letter saying that he has despatched a lot of spares for E.06 magneto and R.OI magneto. As I have not received any information re these, I should be very much obliged if you would let me know exactly what these are for; whether they are for spares, or experiments.

Re our oil leak from rear of engine case, we have had to dismantle the bottom half, so took the opportunity to oil test the crankshaft bearings, etc. Apart from the rear main bearing leaking slightly more than the others, there is nothing to indicate where this oil is coming from, but we are of the opinion that the oil retaining screw on the end bearing is not capable of dealing with the excess oil at this point. Do you not think it would be advisable to fit a thrower ring, as is the case on the E.A.C. crankshaft?
