X4565 To-By.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} from BJ. Copies to Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} Hm.{Capt. W. Hallam - Head Repairs} BJ11/H23.12.24. BALLOON TYRES. This matter was discussed at the Sales Conference this afternoon, and we understand the position is as follows:- 1. Tests have been made with 34 x 7.30" size tyres: We have no hesitation in advising customers not to use this size tyre. 2. The tyre which we are really interested in is the 33 x 6.75" tyre. We understand that no tests have been made at W. on this size. We therefore are not in a position yet to tell customers whether they can have balloon tyres on 40/50 h.p. chassis or not. We hope W. will make tests at the earliest possible moment, (a) on cars with front wheel brakes; (b) on cars without front wheel brakes; as although this tyre may be unsafe with front wheel brakes, it may be safe without, and we can advise customers accordingly. Do you think we can have these results two or three days after Christmas, please? - as we are in a very awkward position, not only here, but with all our depots and agents all over the world. We really do not know what to tell our customers. B.J. RECEIVED 24 DEC HS{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} | ||
