X 3754. To R.{Sir Henry Royce} from Da.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} Dal5/EF18.2.20. X 3754. RE REPAIR CARS. Long con rods In view of the difficulties experienced in fitting the standard type of cast iron pistons on repair cars satisfactorily it is proposed that we should provide a solittype which will be suitable for the old type connecting rods and gudgeon pins. We have accordingly made a drawing N.3509 of which we send a print which shews this suggestion. It has been designed on the lines of the cast iron piston you recently sent us as far as possible, but the rings have been lifted a little higher because of the position of the gudgeon pin.
