Chassis 3-CP 48. C O P Y. Hotel Royal EVIAN (Hte Savoie). August 7th 1938. Franco-Britannic Autos Ltd., 12 Avenue George V, PARIS. Dear Sir, I received your letter of the 2nd instant and thank you very much for sending the tyre, which came two days ago. Mrs. Bondy received two bills from Levallois (N°6770 & N°6789) and she said she does not want to pay for it. And now, please, something about the engine. I was twice over the mountains, not so high, about 1200 and 1400 metres. But the engine is running very hot. After a few kilometres, it is on 100° DEGREES. Two days ago, I passed the Col de la{L. A. Archer} Forclas (?), a narrow road, and in the middle of the hill the engine stopped because the petrol pump was no longer working. I stopped about half an hour till the engine was cooler and then it began again to work. I went up the hill in the first, slowly. I started with 70° on the thermometer and, when I came up it was on the 100 mark for a distance of 2 1/2 Kms. I met an English chauffeur in Zürich and he told me the same story. But he now has a new fan with 5 blades, and he said it is much better now. Could you send me such a fan to Nice, if it is easy to change. We leave Monday for Monte-Carlo (Hôtel de Paris) for a few days, and then Italy. From Paris to Zürich I used about 30 litres of petrol for 100 Kms.The engine is running very well, but the heat! It is impossible to go over the Swiss mountains on such hot days. On the flat street I have about 90°. I am sorry, but I must tell you that. With Many, many thanks, Yours faithfully, Sgd. Ad. BERGMANN. c/o Mrs. S.L. BONDY, Hôtel de Paris, MONTE CARLO. | ||
