"G". X3014 COPY OF LETTER FROM - THE LUCAS ELECTRICAL CO. LTD., WELL STREET, BIRMINGHAM. Ref. FSW.9194. November 28th. 1923. Messrs. Rolls-Royce Ltd., Nightingale Road, DERBY. Dear Sirs, Further to our letter of the 27th.inst., regarding dynamo No.E.575 No.5994, returned to us for examination on account of bearing noise. This machine has been dismantled and we find that the bearing at the commutator end was rough in action which was caused by small amount of grit between the ball bearings and rings. This was certainly stiff to rotate but after being washed with paraffin same became quite free. The ball race in question has been dismantled and there does not appear to be any sign of roughness or undue wear, and we can only report that the failure which you experienced was due to partial seizure, due to the above mentioned trouble. The dynamo has been thoroughly examined and in every other respect is quite satisfactory. A new race has been fitted to the commutator end to obviate any further trouble. We are not making any charge for rectification. The necessary adjustments have been completed and the dynamo is being despatched to you to-night. Assuring you of our best attention at all times. We are, Yours faithfully, THE LUCAS ELECTRICAL CO. LTD. | ||
