W/P. Sr. from Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/GWH.{George W. Hancock - Head Chateauroux} c. Sr/VA. 1245 Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/GWH{George W. Hancock - Head Chateauroux}2/R.27.7.37. P.III - VAPORISATION TROUBLE. Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} has asked me to reply to your letter of the 22nd re Mr. de Villeroy 3.BU.94, and any others that may have the same trouble. Va. will remember an owner - Mr. Benmeyer - called at the Paris Depot with chassis 3.BT.{Capt. J. S. Burt - Engineer}121, and showed us a scheme which he had fitted while in Vienna, which he assured us had cured all his trouble with evaporation. Previous to having the alteration made to his petrol system under the bonnet, he had pumps changed with no better results. Va. was there when the owner was telling me the wonderful results he had obtained by the alteration, so, therefore, Va. could very easily fit up 2.BU.94 in the same manner which should overcome the major complaint. We do not know of any other simple remedy at the moment. The following is the alteration carried out on 3.BT.{Capt. J. S. Burt - Engineer}121:- (1) Petrol pumps lagged with sheet asbestos on barrels. (2) A sheet of aluminium lagged with asbestos placed in front of the pumps to deflect heat from exhaust. (3) Petrol filter removed from V.{VIENNA} (4) A stay to hold filter (filter horizontal on carburetter). (5) Flexible pipe from pump to filter in horizontal line. A copper pipe in same line to carburetter lagged with 5/16 asbestos rope. ---------------- The reason this scheme can work is because there is no trap for vapour in the pipe line. Please try it out.
