X1086 Exptl. Dept. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Gry.{Shadwell Grylls}6/KW. 14th October, 1936. W. Griswold, Esq., The Packard Motor Co., Detroit, Mich., U.S.A. Dear Mr. Griswold, I see in "Automotive Industries" the other day that you have just brought out a new 6-cylinder car. The drawing of the engine appears to show that you have reverted to the normal balance weight arrangement in which the counterweights are opposite the crank pins. While I was in America you told me of a more cunning scheme whereby with less total added weight you could balance more accurately the deflections that actually took place. We should be very interested to know here whether you are now in favour of the normal type of balance weight from a scientific point of view, or because of some reason such as easier of the crank pins. Kind regards, Yours sincerely, | ||
