X.3610 XH232 Extract from Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}2/LG28.9.20. X.3481. RE "GOSHAWK" ENGINE. X.3610. We have proved that the chief noise on the Goshawk engine was caused by the oil pump. It was caused by the oil being trapped in the gear teeth. When this pump was made we could not obtain any Cutters 20° obliquity - 14° were used. As soon as the Cutters are available we will try a pump with 20° obliquity teeth. In the meantime we have overcome the trouble by milling a slot to relieve the oil pressure in the teeth similar to what was done on previous pumps. | ||
