Steering fault with the EAC 'V' Series cars during 10,000-mile tests.

STEERING ON EAC. 'V' SERIES. X8940 X8430

With reference to the attached daily report from France dated 20.4.25.

This fault has been complained of on former 10,000 miles tests. It occurred when the 40/50 10,000 miles test cars were being run.

It does however appear to be worse on the EAC. which we think is probably due to the higher average speed. We know of no definite remedy which does not introduce other undesirable features. Kxix It is a question of compromise.

There is no reason why production cars should not have the same fault.

When considering steering complaints with the cars running 10,000 miles, we must take into consideration the conditions under which they are running. The roads in the vicinity of Chateauroux are in exceedingly bad repair.

On reasonably smooth roads there is no complaint. If we make modifications to make the car suitable for the conditions under which they are run, they are then likely to suffer from low speed steering wobbles and unstable steering.

This question of steering was taken up with R.{Sir Henry Royce} at WW. during our last visit and since then we have received a new scheme for a spring damped pendulum lever which may go a long way to improve the steering.
