road is very good, joggles are so rapid that your arms ache after a very short distance. This occurs chiefly between 60 and 70 M.P.H. I also noticed that during this rapid joggling of the steering wheel that the movement of the front wings is in sympathy. These two conditions have definitely got worse than when I left.

We have checked the cross steering tube load and have found that this has depreciated. One cause I have put down to this is, there is insufficient clearance in the contacts at the neck of the ball. I found both the contacts at each end of the cross steering tube binding in the neck of the ball. This will of course prevent the full load being applied to the surfaces of the contacts. It is a point which should be watched, and probably more clearance given in the production of these contacts.

I have also stopped up the holes in the high pressure valves of the front shock dampers to see if this will have any effect upon the joggles.

The load on the cross steering tube has been increased to the standard loading. I propose trying the car again with these modifications before touching or interfering with the torque reaction dampers.

My impression of the car generally, is that it is very sweet running, brakes are efficient, and with the attention to the dampers, it will be a very nice car.

I have obtained at HS {Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} ' request, from the Paris Depot, the cylinder head taken off 43-GX, Baron Empain's car. This is to obtain relative tests for petrol consumption and acceleration. It may also give us some information for water temperatures.

We shall be carrying out quite a lot of experimental work with regard to the setting of the valves, cut-out open, and with the dampers. within the next few day.
