To Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} from Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/EAG. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/EAG.4/RH.{R. Hollingworth}24.2.41. 1021 HINGES On 3.B.50 we found an example of Beatonson self-alining hinges that were creaking badly, on examination these were found to be quite dry and rusty. As this car has been in use just over two years, it is to be expected that the hinges would require attention, although we are of the opinion that if they had been assembled with graphite grease in the first place, they would have been in much better condition. We have written to Park Ward asking them in future to use a suitable grease when assembling. We have also taken the matter up with the hinge manufacturer with a view to having the bearings made in self lubricating bronze or the centre pin made so that a grease gun can be used to lubricate the hinge. Regarding the hinges on production B.V. bodies, we have written to Park Ward asking if they can supply us with prints showing their present method of hinge attachment, which appears to be unsatisfactory, so that we can go into the matter of designing an improved fixing and possibly stiffening the hinges. We shall, however, be unable to deal with this until the Myth drawings are further advanced. If they cannot supply the necessary drawings, it will be necessary for us to have one of the production bodies here, so that we can get the necessary information.
