To Sft. {Mr Swift} for Mr.Brock. " EP. {G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer} " BY. {R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} x4273 EFC {E. Fowler Clarke - Electrical Engineer} 4/T21.8.23. X.4273 - 40/50 STABALITE COIL FOR GOSHAWK. With reference to failures of ignition coils in the primary windings, these failures are of such a nature that the presence of the fault may not always be manifest in faulty running of the coil. Therefore, no coil which has once given any sign of being faulty should be returned again for production, even after what appears to be a further perfectly satisfactory production test. A coil having failed in this way should on the contrary be handed to us for the complete investigation. We are hoping to develop a method by which weak spots and primary windings could can be subjected to an intensive test and caused definitely to break down, the intensity of the test being such that a reasonably well insulated primary will stand up. We have received coils - (1) No.3115 from 58-S-3, which is still unsatisfactory on chassis. also (2) No.3016 from 59-S-7, which is apparently O.K.on chassis, but which should not, for the above reasons, by replaced on chassis without some alteration to the primary winding. In the meantime we hope to cause a definite breakdown of the primary winding of this coil. EFC. {E. Fowler Clarke - Electrical Engineer} | ||
