x7080 To DY.{F R Danby} from E/JNR.{Charles L. Jenner} c.c. Mr. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} RHC.{R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer} Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Smdl. re Phantom II Semi-Expanding Carburetter. Please receive herewith: LeC.3294 - Modifications to the slow speed runner. (1) We have provided a finger adjustment at the top, so that the slow speed jet can be adjusted while the engine is running, instead of using packing washers. (2) Alteration to the slow running jet and choke tube, since the previous parts made to Ex.9777 and Ex.9778 are not entirely satisfactory owing to a hesitation in the pickup if, after deceleration the throttle is slowly opened. With this proportion of jet and choke tube it is necessary to open out the hole in the Stromberg throttle edge runner from .075" to .098". This should be tested immediately in parallel with production. We are surprised to find that the cap at the top of the air valve guide is not the latest pattern, and we should like the cap with a female thread covering the vent hole to be adopted, as soon as it is possible. Another point is the inserted main air valve seat. We think this should be secured in the body of the carburetter by peening over the bottom edge in a similar manner to the fixing of the main diffuser choke. E/JNR.{Charles L. Jenner} | ||
