Messrs. Rolls-Royce, Ltd.,
DERBY.

For the attention of Mr. Grylls.

Dear Sirs,

Further to our letter of the 10th March and yours of the 13th March, we are enclosing a copy of our quotation to Messrs. Chas. Weston & Co. together with a copy of the letter we received from them.

Since we received the original enquiry from yourselves, prompted as we understood by the fact that the rubber, as you were obtaining it was definitely not satisfactory for the job, we are at a loss to understand why the question of price crops up, since it would appear that it is of the utmost importance first to test the material, and secondly to consider the cost of the article.

As we have pointed out to them, we cannot, for the very fact that synthetic rubber is seven times the price of natural rubber, ever hope to compete with an article made from natural rubber which is giving satisfaction. Where, however, failure occurs, we do not consider that the price of rubber bears any relation to the problem on hand.
