BENTLEY lll - ENGINE CONTROLS.

Please receive herewith the following designs :-

E.CD.251 Throttle Controls (Side Elevation) Bentley lll.
E.CD.252 Throttle Controls (Plain) Bentley lll.

We have followed Wraith lll practice for allowance of engine movement in chassis in designing these controls. The carburetters are same as for Bentley ll except that the throttle spindles are altered slightly and a throttle closing spring and stop is now required for both the carburetters.

Two additional facings are called for on the cylinder block for the throttle and mixture countershafts.

The throttle adjustment has been simplified and considerably reduced in cost as compared with the Bentley ll, the adjustment being made by right and left hand threads for the pull rod and jaws.

A number of the parts for the accelerator controls are same as for Wraith lll.

We have not been able to complete the damper governor controls, as the design for the damper governor is not yet to hand.

Will Da{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}/JD.{J. Draper - Frames} and BY/RD. note that the mixture controls have been transferred from the steering column to the instrument board and the controls between the instrument board and the dash are yet to be done when the position on the instrument board is decided on.

The controls on the steering box are close to the bonnet rest plate, and this point should be watched when designing the rest plate.

We should also point out that the pedal positions will require to be checked when the final pedal design is completed.

The direction of pull of the throttle closing springs has been reversed to that on Bentley ll, to relieve the load on the throttle spindle bearings by working against the gas pull on the throttle due to engine depression, this calls for a slight alteration to the machining of the lug on the carburetter body for the location of the spring anchor bracket.
